Lots of options you don’t find elsewhere
By syzygist, 2016-10-21
via wordpress.org
I built a nice site for a client with this theme a couple of years ago, but then they replaced WordPress’s Customize with their own version, and released a number of updates that caused problems on the site, so I was pretty unhappy with WPHoot and wished I had used a different theme.
However, they have returned to the standard Customize interface, and it’s been quite awhile since an update caused issues.
There are a lot of nice options in this theme that are hard to find in free themes – numerous page templates to choose from, and also numerous choices of how to divide up your footer space, choices about which meta items to display (author, date, category, etc.), not only on posts, but on pages, and a couple of built-in sliders.
They use widget areas for the special front page layout, as do many themes, which can be confusing when you try to figure out which content is in which widget area, but there are helpful instructions built right in to Customize.
There are also a couple of front page sliders, which I have not used, but I’ll come back and update this review if I get a chance to.
Support for free users is not rapid, but it is courteous and helpful. Considering that many themes with a paid version don’t offer support to their free users at all, I am happy with that.
I originally rated this theme three stars (would’ve made it 2.5 if I could), but now I feel it deserves 4, and may even upgrade that to 5 once I have a chance to try it out on a new site.

Buggy updates, non-standard Customize
By syzygist, 2016-10-17
via wordpress.org
I built a nice site for a client with this theme, but then they replaced WordPress’s standard Customize with their own version (I didn’t think WordPress even allowed that), which is not all that intuitive and creates an extra, unnecessary learning curve. We rarely change content, and I have to poke around in their proprietary interface to find the dark corner where our content is stored every time.
But the worst thing about this theme is is the poorly vetted updates. I always feel a sense of dread when a Chromatic update is released. I never apply it until I have time to troubleshoot, because about 1/3 of the time, the update messes up the site and I have to spend days emailing back and forth to get it fixed (receiving low priority support since we use the free version, which is insult added to injury when it’s clearly an update-related bug). I have never had this high a percentage of update failures with any other theme, and I would not use Chromatic again. You can build a similar site with many other themes without the headaches. Would’ve given 2.5 stars if possible. Note that at least two of the other reviews for this theme are for the premium version, which is not supposed to be reviewed on WordPress.org.

CHROMATIC – The best theme with the best support
By bck5WG, 2015-10-25

Chromatic is the best theme I have ever tested. I’ve tried dozens of themes, even purchased several commercial ones, and Chromatic is the best. The free version alone is clean and beautiful and comes with theme options which to me is very important since I don’t want to waste my time tinkering with code.
The support is simply exceptional that I didn’t hesitate to go with the premium version. The premium theme is full of bells and whistles and I love that I can customize everything right out of theme options. I can go on and on raving about Chromatic. I’m really very happy with this. Thank you, Jasin!

A. This theme is everything you need straight out the box.
B. There’s ample methods of customization and it’s really pretty straight forward.
C. (and most importantly) Support is awesome! I can only assume WPHoot takes GREAT pride in their product which explains the top notch support. (Thanks Jasin!)
Definitely recommend!

Very flexible theme. The support is great I have always had timely responses and help with fixing issues that weren’t even necessarily the fault of the theme.

Great Theme. Amazing support

To begin with the theme is great. The options are very well laid out, and the documentation helped a newbie like me get started and set up everything very easily.
I did run into an issue, which later I realized is not Chromatic related. It was a general WordPress issue (I did say I am a newbie, didn’t I?
