Customizr

The only thing better than this theme is the support and community of developers who use it. When I started developing my website I was very new to PHP and CSS, but with the help of the support documentation and others in the support forum, who apparently have unlimited patience for newbies, I’ve learned loads about all of this and the response I’ve had from my website since going live just one week ago has been immense, and that is mainly down to the fact that I’ve been using this theme.

I’m not a developer so I previously paid a web-designer friend to set up my WP site. But it was a pain having to go back to him every time I wanted to change something. I searched high and low for a theme that would be fairly easy for an inexperienced person to install, and have some degree of customisation going forward. Oh, and lots of lovely functionality and slider options. Nothing else like that exists out there, unless you pay through the nose for one of paid themes. Then I found Customizr and I couldn’t believe my luck. It does EVERYTHING I needed it to do, has fantastic customisable functionality (as you’d expect, given its name) and has given me a cleaner, whizzier, more professional looking WP site than the one my web-design friend started me off on. Most of the functionality is intuitive to use, and it’s really forgiving of my novice skills. They even made it a cinch to set up a child theme, so I can further customize what comes out the box. And if you don’t know what a child theme is, neither did I till I installed customizr and found out how easy it was to do.

No, I’m not on any payroll, I’m just a user and a fan. Had the site up and running for a couple of months now and it’s not let me down.

If you need your hand holding even more, I found a couple of useful videos on Youtube which I found really valuable when taking my first steps.

Finally, the icing on the cake for me is the Customizr’s author Nico, and his back up team of support Members on the forum (esp d4z and rdell), who are so incredibly helpful in replying quickly, solving issues, answering questions and giving fantastic advice.

These guys really are the deal, and this theme really is the deal. Can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone who wants an intuitive, easy to use, highly functional, great looking WP theme that doesn’t cost you a thing. Although I went on Nico’s blog and donated a few bucks to keep him and the guys in coffee. Worth every cent.

On the surface it may appear to be a theme just right for a webmaster to adapt simple changes for his/her site. But it is way too complicated for that. A good example of my frustration is to add to the footer credits. My current them running 3.8.1 was written in 2010 and conforms to WordPress 3.8.1 and its Appearances menu. A simple menu item titled Footer allows me to enter the footer code I want. But not with Customizr. Somehow it blocks the 3.8.1 Dashboard item and instead I have to use a “code snippet” which I found on the theme’s site, which doesn’t work correctly anyway. Looking at the list of “code snippets” provided, many are simple tasks that in other themes can be changed by adapting CSS statements or typing in HTML in a child theme page.

I’ve spent a lot of time attempting to get this theme to match my current site (I’m changing because I want to go responsive) but I’m going to look for something else.

I can deactivate it, I have spent two hours to try to figure it out and I can’t. I am sure this is a great program but I screwed up and need to delete it. Can someone help, PLEASE!

This is a great theme with fabulous support. I have purchased premium themes and none have had the great documentation and clear support provided here. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to start learning some basic php/html/css coding.

I have used this theme already for 5 websites and can say that it is very flexible and easy to learn.

I want to use also the BuddyPress plugin in one of more cases but that is not working properly at the moment and I hope that these problems will also be solved in the near future.

Very easy to use, customization is easy to figure out. Still diving in to some of the additional features. One of the best WP themes I’ve used over last 7-8 years.
