Description by Author

evolve is a multi-purpose WordPress theme that has recently been redesigned as a full responsive theme for all devices. evolve features 2 Header Layouts, a slick Bootstrap and Parallax slider with up to 5 slides on any page and a post slider for 10 posts per post category. There are a number of different slider and animated effects to move captions and images into position and then back out of frame again. Button and arrow navigation elements are shown on each slider, or slides can be automatically cycled through. Bootstrap construction makes it easy to change designs around because the theme is build on a grid-like system. Modify anything with the design, such as the logo, header, background, main colors used, and more. The FontAwesome icon pack provides Retina Ready icons that look terrific on an iPad or other HD device and at any resolution. Animate.css elements are included for slick CSS interactive effects which can be included on many different pages to create interesting animations. Infinite Scroll gives an unique loading of the blog posts. There are more than 500 Google web fonts which ensures almost infinite selection of just the right fonts selectable for headings, sub-headings and web copy in any size, color or style. Image thumbnails have attractive borders and an image zoom effect when hovered over. evolve is WPML, Polylang compatible and it's translation ready. Multiple blog layouts includes single column, two or 3 columns in a grid or a post with a featured image. There are 12 widget areas, four in the header, four in the footer and 2 in the sidebar. Add your own custom widgets to include new functionality into a page such as an improved opt-in box, featured posts, archives and more. Two widgets are included in the theme: Tabs (recent posts, popular posts and comments) and the Carousel slider. In order to get the word out, social media accounts are well promoted. Up to 11 networks are supported including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Google+. Choose which logos to display at the bottom of each post and what size the social media icons should be. There are easy navigation elements like a revolving main menu where menu items rotate and highlight when hovered over, categories and tags are shown at the bottom of each post, a "back to top" navigation "up" arrow is shown on each page and breadcrumb navigation is also available to help visitors avoid getting lost in large sites. evolve also includes a contact page template with Google Map. evolve fully supports bbPress and BuddyPress. *** IMPORTANT: Please read the changelog.txt file for any important changes before you update the theme! ***

  • Superb By asylum119, 2014-07-25 via wordpress.org

A lot of work has gone into this theme and it would have defiantly been a 5 if the titles used the @media or js to scale for screen size, nice work. A bit more time with this theme may be all I need to pull the trigger and purchase it.

  • Why Do I Need Media with my Posts By mythusmage, 2014-07-25 via wordpress.org

I don’t. I want including media to be at my option. When the theme is updated please remove that requirement.

  • Nice options for a free theme! By loosefast, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

I was able to get most of what I wanted using custom CSS options – changing header & footer, fonts. probably need to do more myself to change the sidebar animation effect as it interferes with Amazon widget. Thanks!

  • Fantastic. Easy. Modern. Love it. By Elizabeth Richardson, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

Easy to customize, great theme setting options. Much appreciated.

  • Great theme By rgp888, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

Does more for a free theme than any others I’ve tried – running it on 4 sites at present and all look fairly different without trying too hard to change much. Very easy to use.

  • It's a nice theme with some slick options By chachanp77, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

    updated:

My original review was a bit unnecessarily harsh, it’s actually a pretty nice theme with some nice options. And the dev has done a nice job improving it.

  • Very nice By bierenard, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

The free part of this theme is great.
I like facility of publishing news (with the slider) on my home page, this make my site more attractive !

  • Nice looking but not flexible, not very customizable By exelgn, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

Extremely hard to modify, very little customizing options to play with. Not recommended if you like to customize a lot of things on the original template design.

  • Evolve – how I wish I could change it By DeweyW, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

I worked very hard getting Evolve looking jus tthe way I wanted. Now I wish I had used a different theme with more widget areas, more customizable areas and one I could make a child-them from without it crashing or looking like c#@p.

When I get more time I will re-do this site, get away from Evolve and never looked back. It is not a bad theme if you want something simple – very simple. But there are very simple themes that are much easier to work with and get better support. If you want support for Evolve from the developer – good luck.

  • Beware This theme Can Break Your Running Website By ajayksingh, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

This theme looks great that was the reason I chose to use it for my website. But very soon I learned that in every new version this theme breaks something big. Sometime Slideshow will come with half of image going out of box, sometime it becomes impossible to hide Slideshow (yes it has happened in one update), changing color and size of font is also a common issue and in latest update now they have set thumbnail size of 680×330 for featured images on your home screen and it can not be changed through settings. My whole website is screwed and now I have to remove featured images till i find a fix for this issue.
So either ignore this theme or do not update it otherwise you may be left with a broken website. God knows if they even test their own theme or not.

  • Still some issues that should be worked out By YLE Network, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

I really like the Evolve theme and have been using is on one of my hosted sites already. After I created a new site and have downloaded the latest version of the theme. I have been having trouble removing the carousel slider from my home page. I have tried going to the settings and making it so that there is no header but after saving those settings it is still there. I have also tried adding something else to the header in the place of it and it is still there. I am going to try downloading an older version to see if I have better luck with the look I want. Other than that, I really enjoy the theme.

  • Every. Update. Breaks. EvoLve. By Frutke, 2014-06-25 via wordpress.org

    TL;DR-
This theme is free, but it’s not worth your effort.

Every single time an update for this theme is released, I shudder.

Without exception, they all have caused unexpected, significant and unwanted changes to the site. In the past, customizations made using the theme’s UI were simply lost when updates were released. Now, we have to click around the entire site and find out what’s newly broken (this time a new background was imposed upon us, menus have a weird rollover effect and – oh look – breadcrumbs are suddenly active).

A backup/restore feature was recently added – which doesn’t seem to work, incidentally. We’ve resorted to taking screenshots of each page of the theme’s configuration so I can rebuild it following an update.

If we had not have already invested significant time in getting this otherwise beautiful theme to work (in earlier versions) we’d abandon it.

We usually use free themes to test out whether we’d like to buy more themes from the same company. A test-drive, if you will. If this is an example of the quality work to be expected from Theme4Press, no thanks.
