One Trick, then it's perfect

I like the theme. It’s pretty easy to configure and let’s me do everything that I want. It’s the look and feel that I wanted to have. So *thumbs up*.
But one thing is crazy or I have an understanding problem. I added some extra code for piwik analysis and for a link to a “Toolbox” module. And yes, it’s clear, those settings will be lost with every theme update. And so I wanted to create a child theme as one always does. “Mantle” does not bring such a look and feel, and so a “GeneratePress Child Theme” would be great.
I created a style.css for the child theme as discussed everywhere, and I added the two changed files single.php and footer.php. Unfortunately, when the child theme is activated, the whole view is damaged. An I am pretty sure that I didn’t do something wrong.
If this possibility would be given, then GeneratePress would be perfect. Or did I understand something wrong?

The perfect balance of function and usability
By WebTrooper, 2014-10-25

GeneratePress is the most flexible, easy to customize theme I have ever used… and I’ve used a lot of them.
Many themes these days come pre-packaged with all kinds of bells and whistles that have to be removed, hopefully without breaking the theme, before I can even start with my own customization. Even so-called bare bones frameworks have their fair share of added features. Of course there is the other extreme — the themes which display nothing but raw text with little to no markup whatsoever. While all these themes do serve a purpose, I feel GeneratePress is the perfect balance of form and functionality. With minimal effort, I can make a GP child theme (he even provides one) with the look I’m going for, without having to remove features I don’t want, or having to add markup just to get to a good starting point.
I feel that Tom, the developer, did a superb job in making GP the most flexible theme possible. His use of the Customizer to provide options is likewise, well thought out, with just the right number and choice of options for most situations. And if you want even more, his very affordable, totally optional collection of plugins will supercharge the Customizer panel with all the options you’ll ever need for almost any on-the-fly customization… without adding a ton of bloat you don’t need.
All that said, GP is a nice theme right out of the box, ideal for those who just want a nice looking front end that they can start using right away. No theme can possibly be everything to everybody, but I do believe GeneratePress comes as close as reasonably possible. Thanks Tom!

Great Theme – Light weight, flexible, and extensible

I was so frustrated with the theme I was using that when I broke it for no obvious reason I finally gave up on patching it up and went scouting for a new theme. I’m very happy that I came across GeneratePress. Basic theme customization in the free version allowed me to recreate most of the look that I had before. With the Super Pack of addons I was able to get almost all the way there. The aspects that it didn’t have out of the box are easy to live without or to implement with plugins and widgets without resorting to coding CSS or PHP.
Even there, after browsing through the support group I am confident that if I find something I absolutely can’t live without I will be able to add snippets of CSS or implement hooks without fear of the whole thing collapsing.
Great job.
Pay for the addons – it’s worth every penny.

Seriously! How does this only rate 4.9? Generate Press and more importantly Thomas are amazing. This layout is intuitive, easy to use and the prices is ridiculously low compared to competitors. Give this man some applause because he’s outdone himself!

A great WP theme that is very easy to customize (e.g. with the addition of the Simple Custom CSS plugin, you can’t go wrong). GP does everything it promises, and more: its [ link redacted, please do not post links in reviews ] (worth every penny) are extremely user-friendly and intuitive, letting you configure your web seamlessly. On top of that, the customer support is great.

This is an excellent framework theme. It is new but has all the heavyweight staffs in a lightweight body! I like the features, flexibility, control and cleanliness of this theme. Free child themes (I used only one) are bonus!
It works and looks great in mobile platforms too.
The addons are affordable and provide more functionality. The list is growing. Tom is open to new suggestions to improve this theme.
Support for this theme is ‘WOWsome’ – The support team get back to me every time quickly and answer my questions. It is good to know that superb and sincere service is still available.

Should be 6 Stars!

This is an excellent free Genesis Child Theme, and if you know how to code, you can probably skip the addons, but for $20 for all ten, it’s too good a bargain to pass up!
Great support via the GP forums, and on Twitter, too.

Easy enough for a writer to use!

In the past I had always assumed you had to pay $50 or $75 for a quality theme. Remember, I’m a writer, not a developer. My knowledge is limited. So I guess I assumed that expensive themes were better than free themes.
Not true! I love GeneratePress. It’s better than the last theme I paid $75 for. And, most important for me, it’s super-simple. As a writer I want to focus on what I do best. I don’t want to spend time learning software and services. So for me, this theme is a real gem. It gives me all the options I need, with a tiny learning curve.
And yes, I bought the package of addons. Again, because it made my life simpler. And the price is what…four or five coffees at your favorite coffee shop?
